WelcomeThank you for visiting my website! I am thrilled and honored to represent my city as Miss Minneapolis International 2016. I am originally from Rochester, MN, and am finishing up a Masters in Teaching at the University of St. Thomas. I currently am a high school Chemistry teacher in the St. Paul Public School district. My time as a teacher has been incredibly fulfilling, and when I see the students get excited about learning, this is the most rewarding experience.
Ever since I can remember, music has been a major focus of my life. I began playing piano early on, taking part in several competitions statewide. In high school, a few friends and I formed a chamber music trio, through the Rochester Chamber Music Society, of which I was secretary. We had a blast performing for Mayo Clinic functions as well as private concerts and at local churches. In college, I went on to become rehearsal director for a student-led music group called Agnes A Cappella at St. Olaf College, where I graduated with a B.A. in Chemistry the spring of 2014. It was during my years at St. Olaf that my grandfather was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. Learning of this disease that has no cure left me feeling helpless, but one of the most rewarding experiences was volunteering at the Northfield Hospital, organizing and leading "Bingo Night" for residents of the Long Term Care Center. As a teacher, I hope to cultivate a passion for learning through music and science, so that, through creativity and practical application, my students may impact the world around them. As a community member, I hope to continue to be actively involved in improving the quality of life for elders affected with memory loss. |
